Office Leftovers

I started my new job yesterday.

I've been quite busy, figuring stuff out and meeting the folks I'll be helping. Everyone seems nice.

The thing that confuses me are the leftovers.

Not in the fridge; in my office.

The previous IT guy left me some presents:
  • His Anniversary card.
  • An apple.
  • Pam's phone number on a sticky note on the keyboard.
  • A 60 minute micro cassette for an answering machine we don't have.
  • Half a stick of deodorant.
  • A folder labeled 'Junk-Spy'.
    • That's a pretty incomplete and skimpy encyclopedia.
  • A can of WD-40.

What goodies have you been left with?

Years ago I moved into a new office and opened the top drawer to find it filled with nail clippings. Absolutely disgusting. I promptly set the desk ablaze and claimed that I found the pile of ashes there when I arrived. Good luck and I hope that this new position challenges and uplifts you. BTW, look at my 10/28 post if you have a moment. It is about my dealings with the local IT folks where I work. In short, it is all their fault.

I take it he left you an edible apple, not an Apple iProduct?

And if you're confused about the leftovers, maybe you could call Pam and ask her about them.

Sometimes it is kinda nice to get free random stuff from other people, but at the same time it is a little annoying to have people leave their junk...

I don't think I've ever been left anything worth blogging about. It's a shame because this was a funny post.

You should see my cubicle. Or not. Ok, definitely not. It's a mess. I mean there's computers everywhere!

I LOVE this list! So funny! I've been left MANY things - especially from kids who move out. Yeah - closets full of left over - JUNK. I don't even know WHERE they got most of it. And the other day we cleaned out our kitchen walk in pantry - I have NO IDEA why I have all that junk either - or where I got it!

As a teacher, it sometimes amazes me what I find in my desk/cabinets when I return after the summer. I've left myself plenty of junk (because by the last day of school, I'm thinking about summer vacation, too...and who wants to clean?), but I've also found some some pretty awesome stuff--mostly stuff confiscated from kids that I toss in a drawer/cabinet, then forget about. I loved finding the mini football, giant bubble wand, and mini skateboards again. Oh, and I pretty much never have to buy Sharpies for the rest of my life.

When I left my job I left a poster of Edward Cullen singing me 80's pop hits. The poster was from a magazine, but the serenades were ALL ME. And Post-Its. And Sharpies.

It wasn't in my office, but down the hall from me, in a closet, was a portrait of the founder of the school I work for. Just sitting there. In a closet. So it's in my office now.

I had someone leave me some fingernail clippings once. Lovely.

5 years ago, I ended up with a cabinet full of cables that I finally cleared out last month. Did I really need 43 D-Plugs on hand? Not once did I ever open up the packages of serial cables. I have yet to crack open the giant binder with all of the technical details of our ancient NEC D-Term phone system. I also have a quart-sized yogurt container filled with keys to nowhere - at least I think so. And, I was issued a previously used laptop that had lots of someone else's personal data on it. That last point is why I always (1) do a clean install when I get a user's computer back so I can reissue a perfectly clean laptop to a new user or (2) pull the drive and destroy it before I take the workstation to an e-waste site.

I was once left a collection of romance novels. I didn't get much for them at the local used book store.

I inherited a file folder full of purple dittos. Purple. Dittos. I think you could still smell the ink.
