Staff: Do you have any electrical tape?
Me: Nope.
Staff: You sure?
Me: Yup.
Staff: Can you go get some for me?
Me: What do you need it for?
Staff: My iPod cable. It's fraying on one end.
Me: Sorry. Not going to stop doing my work-related stuff to go get you electrical tape.
Staff: You sure you don't have any?
Me: Yup.
Staff: You don't keep any in the server room?
Me: Nope.
Staff: I guess I can bring some in from home if I have to.
Me: I'm sorry that you'll have to go through such a huge personal trial for your personal equipment. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance to you in your music-seeking endeavors.

At least they're using a personal device to store their music... most people where I work keep their files right on their "personal" network drive.

ReplyDeleteI think what actually bothers me is the sense of urgency and entitlement mixed with disregard for work and others, not so much the request itself.
Next thing you know, you're going to be telling them you don't have any glue to fix the handles on their coffee mugs.
